Geoff Brown set up the Gesby charity in 2015 to create a riding for the disabled facility. His decision to do so was based on two main factors. Firstly, having owned racehorses for a number of years he was keen to see them serve another purpose when their racing life is finished. The second reason is his wish to give something back to the Perthshire community in return for the support given to his businesses over the years.
A major renovation of the large barn at Castle Farm, Kinfauns took place in early 2015 to create a first-class indoor unit comprising of an arena, office, toilet, tack room, staff room, heated viewing gallery and stables. Situated on the outskirts of Perth, our centre passed all the criteria to become a member of the Riding for the Disabled Association UK in July 2015. It was a great honour to have HRH Princess Royal officially open the premises on the 6th October 2016.
Our main objectives are to provide a safe, fun and supportive learning environment to improve the conditions of life for people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities. Some of our clients are recommended to join us by medical professionals. To achieve our goals, we carry out therapeutic riding classes and horse care to provide achievement, enjoyment, build confidence, healthy wellbeing and to benefit mobility and coordination. Our Coaches and dedicated volunteers have a strong passion for the work they do and love seeing the big smiles on riders faces when they are with us.
We currently have over 100 disabled riders attending every week and our numbers continue to grow. We also offer the opportunity for people who have disabilities to volunteer with us. Our two employed coaches rely heavily on a fantastic group of around 70 volunteers who assist with coaching, leading, side helping, stable work, administration and fundraising.
As a charity that relies on self- funding, we have to look at all possible revenue streams to support the running costs of the facility. With that in mind, we are pleased to offer pony rides and pony birthday parties subject to availability. We also hold a Summer and Autumn holiday clubs where both disabled and able-bodied children join together for a 3-hour horse-related experience. please visit the "Our Services" pages for further information.
